UPDATE (11/2008): new version is out read all about it here and watch my video here

Are you unable to watch YouTube videos from your WM6 phone like me? :-(

Try YouTube Play

This software installs easily and allows you to search and watch YouTube videos on your Windows Mobile 6 device. it’s really amazing!!!! I’ve been testing it for a while and I’m blown away. It needs a little work on the GUI for VGA devices, but it’s really worth a try.

Note: It’s also a great way to cope with your “iPhone Envy”

Unlocking the HTC S620/S621 (Excalibur)

April 14, 2008 juandg 3 comments

I’ve been thinking about changing my mobile operator for a while now, the only thing stopping me was that my HTC S621 was locked and tied up to the operator to which I bought it from.

Finally last Friday I decide to finally switch and I bought a SIM Card from another operator with a new voice plan and a new data plan (it was a bargain!!) but when I asked them if they can unlock my phone they told me that they can but it would cost me an extra 115 USD!!!!! I went crazy as that is almost a third of the phone’s price on Expansys it was clearly an outrage.

So I started my search all through the city for someone to unlock it for a reasonable price, but I was frustrated to find NO ONE in the city could unlock it, but the operators L. Windows Mobile phones are fairly new in Colombia and they are still some kind of a rarity so most cellphone shops don’t have tools to unlock them.

Frustrated I turned to the web to find a way to unlock it, but I couldn’t find any free solution. Finally I decide I had to pay for it, so I started researching for the best paid solution online and it was unanimous, every forum, every blog and every user group agreed that imei-check.co.uk has the best service and it’s almost guaranteed. So I decided to buy their unlock solution and I was blown away.

At first I had my concerns, as I have a Vista box in the office and all upgrade procedures on my HTC S621 (using RUU) or any hacking attempt done from my Vista machine has been so far unsuccessful, so I thought the unlock software would fail too, then I read on their site that it worked on Windows Vista so without any other concern I wrote my phone’s IMEI in the box (*#06#) and I clicked on the PayPal link to pay 20 GBP (around 39 USD) for my unlocking software!!!! In a matter of seconds I received an email telling me they had to check my transaction against fraud so that I should send them a picture of a document confirming I was the credit card holder, so I took a picture of my driver’s license alongside my credit card with my very own HTC S621 and email it to them and surprisingly a few minutes later I received the unlocking file J .

I ran the software following all of their instructions and it worked on the very first attempt!!!!! I was so happy and so thrilled I felt it was worth every penny, so if anyone is undecided about using imei-check.co.uk service you should fear no more and jump to http://www.imei-check.co.uk/dashunlock.php to free your HTC S620/S621 forever!!!!!

April 1, 2008 juandg Leave a comment

4 months have passed since The Boy Genius broke the news about Windows Mobile 6.1, today Microsoft finally announced the official release of the OS’s new minor version. As I told you yesterday the funny thing is that it is already unofficially available for some devices :)

You can read the official press release here

The biggest claim for the new version is that “the new Internet Explorer Mobile Brings the Quality of Desktop Web Browsing to Phones” and the way they plan to do it is by incorporating Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight plug-ins out of the box as well as some other new features to compete against mobile versions of Opera, Safari and Netfront.

Further more, two mayor manufacturers (Sony Ericsson and HTC) announced their own GUI layers that will sit atop Windows Mobile 6.1, SE’s is called XPERIA Panels and HTC is codenamed “Manila”.
